What is your nationality?
I’m a mutt through and through and so it is difficult for people to instantly recognize my heritage. On my mother’s side I have Chinese and Filipino (with a heavy Spanish influence). My dad’s side is mostly of Scandinavian and British descent but there is a small bit of Native American mixed in there too.
I started off the year as a new graduate with a B.A. in English. I was working at a state agency where I did copy editing and other clerical work for the funding programs, but I was looking for a challenge and something that paid a little better.
I submitted my resume to a lot of places, but most didn’t even respond back (mostly because my experience didn’t match up exactly to what they were looking for). A magazine publisher wanted to hire me as a copy editor and staff writer, but I had to decline because the pay was less than $30,000 a year – not exactly what I was hoping for.
Anyway, after about 3 months of searching, a potential employer actually came to me. They saw that I had experience in the water/wastewater treatment field and that they needed a technical writer/PR person/marketing assistant and my interests seemed to fit the bill. I took the job immediately (yes, finally an offer over 30K) and I’ve been at it ever since – and I love it.
Because of the new job transition and all, I haven’t gone on nearly as many trips as I would have liked. I’ve gone to Disneyland and Portland and Seattle so far this year – and I think I went to San Fran a couple of times but that doesn’t count so much since I live just an hour or so away from there.
There’s more, which I’ll divulge later.
